Baby Steps...
I have been wanting to set up an on line shop for a while, with pieces I have made over the last few years. I have been confused about format. I eventually settled on my own shop, and have just put the first few pieces on there to show. I will be expanding this a lot in January, February and March of this year. It's exciting to finally get it "rolling", a whole new little business for me.

Gina, I just uploaded five things to fiddle around with the layout. When I get the next firing done, I will have about 15 more new pieces, and then I will splurge for the package where I can do a custom header and put in info about myself. I am just happy to give it a shot, and to see how it goes!

Thanks everyone! I am really excited about this. I already got my first order, and am itching to get the things I just pulled out of the oven glazed (along with a ton of stuff which has been sitting around waiting to get glazed since the season ended). Orders to get out to guests and stuff now to put on line! A whole new venture for me!

No, I used a web host called Big Cartel which is just awesome. I got the first upgrade and am playing around with it -- i can put up to 20 products on line with this level of service, and they provide the entire on line shop software/shopping cart stuff.

Thanks again, everyone. Lovely comments! Lydia, I have not chosen against Esty, not yet. I might also put up an Etsy shop and see where I get the best traffic. I like the flexibility of the Big Cartel software, and I need to figure out how better to position myself on Etsy -- lots of potters over there. So this is all a big test case for me to see how it goes. I will seriously start marketing the shop in February, after I have a bunch of new things to add, and after I have really gotten the site design where I want it.
