At the castle we ate Agnolotti with Butter

Late Night Jazz in a Small Village in Italy

Polenta with Robiola at Viotti Vini
Bruschetta and Barbera at Paolo Marengo
Salami and Grapes
Candles thoughout the town. The entire village turned out their lights for the event.
Through the Viotti Vineyards by Candlelight

Last night, the hilltop village of Castel Rocchero put on an incredible event. A walk -- through the vineyards -- by candlelight -- with stops at 6 wineries and culminating at the village castello. Each of the stops served a different course:
Bagna Cauda / Cortese
Polenta with Goat Cheese / Albarossa
Salami and Grapes / Barbera d'Asti
Farinata / Brachetto Secco Frisante
Bruschetta / Barbera d'Asti Superiore
Agnolotti al Burro / Barbera and Dolcetto d'Asti
The tour ended in the town piazza with a jazz concert.
We were clearly the only non-Italians. It was another wonderful example of how Italians celebrate the seasons -- grapes full and heavy on the vine, everyone getting ready for the harvest, and the vineyards are at their most beautiful.

How wonderful. Very convivial!
It must be a delight to stay at your place and breathe in the atmosphere
This is so appealing to me at this very moment. I insist that we are in the countdown. 20 days plus 8 is 29 days.
A perfect evening.
Hi Diana thank you for your comment on my latest post...I have surprised myself , but I don't really like holidaying on my own!
This is amazing...such a beautiful walk, the candlelights the people, so wonderful..
Oh the Italians know how to celebrate in style...:-)
I agree with Amy... *sigh*...
Bagna cauda, polenta and Barbera in AUgust! Whew, you must not be suffering the same heat wave as we're having here in Rome!
Sounds wonderful, that candlelit walk must have been dreamy.
I am thankful for Italy Tutto for pointing out this lovely post and introducing me to your blog.
Ciao,
~Lola
Looks and sounds magical.
We have had over one hundred degrees every day for the last three weeks until today. Piemontese cuisine is not exactly the lightest :) but at least we had to walk from venue to venue, sweat it out and get sober again for the next bottle and plate...
Wow is all I can think to say and also that I wish I could've partaken in such a magical event!
Oh, and thank you for reminding me of bagna cauda - it's a favorite dip that's just perfect for this time of year!
What a lovely idea and looks like a beautiful evening.
You are one lucky girl! I would have loved this.
That looks so cool!
What a wonderful idea! Looks like it was a beautiful evening. How far was it between wineries?
Valerie, between the first and the second was maybe a kilometer, then about a half of kilometer from there into the village. The rest of the venues were dispersed throughout the village. It was an amazingly beautiful event.
Diana Strinati ... honey you r are Italian ... looked like a wonderful evening....
Funny that you have agnolotti with barbera wine, here in the Oltrepo Pavese ( http://www.duepadroni.it ) they have a Agnolotti e Bonarda festival, that is ravioli with meat and bonarda wine...
