Blue Cart at the Forteto della Luja

Today's Nietzsche quote is one I want to hold onto, one I want to meditate on. When I was at the Forteto last week, it struck me what rugged individualists the people who own it are, and how I have come to treasure and respect my own individuality as we have followed the path less taken:

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

Very good quote, certainly one to try and hold on to.

Love the photo!

The notion of owning yourself is a poerful one. Sonehting I fear we have lost sight of.

I think so too!

Jerry, It is not easy to be true to oneself. When I backslide, and do things only because others expect them of me, I notice how awful it makes me feel. But before, it was more normal for me to act that way, and now it is more the exception. So that is movement in the right direction.

I love the photo too, Anne. That periwinkle blue was probably painted on that cart 100 years ago.

Just read your reply to Jerry, how true. i do lots of things because other people expect it, and really makes me feel bad. Since being married twice, two sons, 3 grandchildren, I have lost myself..and now when I do things because I want to, they react.
